The LA803 is a compact line array speaker system that can be ground stacked, subwoofer stacked, or single pole mounted on single subwoofer such as the SAW118 or SAW112 subwoofer cabinet or other subwoofers. It is designed to be a cost effective solution to the much more expensive commercial units costing 3 to 4 times as much. The eight drivers are Eminence Alpha-3 and which are readily available from a number of sources including US Speaker and Parts Express. Using commercial, off-the-shelf components helps keep the price down and eliminates costly proprietary replacement parts often required by other line array speakers. The LA803 is designed to be used with a subwoofer and crossed over at 125Hz. The cabinet can be built from a single 4x8' sheet of 1/2" plywood. The Alpha-3 drivers come in 8, 16, and 32 ohm versions providing a wide range of impendence loads. Using the 8 ohm version and wired in a series/parallel combination results in a 16 ohm box. Two of these cabinets stacked together then results in an 8 ohm, 16 driver line array with a power handling capacity of 400 watts RMS. The design includes t-hats on each end for safely stacking together as well as stacking on a sub. They are simple to build and the sound is amazing!
